Cucina Academy… Nurturing a culture of catering excellence

The Cucina Academy has been developed to offer valuable career-starting opportunities to young people interested in becoming chefs.

Academy students come to us as 16 year-old school-leavers, (usually from Cucina contracted schools) and are given the opportunity to learn their trade in a busy restaurant kitchen.

Our students must adapt quickly to life in an adult work  environment, beginning as Commis chef on a substantial starting salary of around £12,000. Alongside this work, they must study and complete ‘Hotel and Catering’ NVQ modules – to be assessed by an external NVQ Assessor.

Rubbing shoulders with renowned chefs of the calibre of Ian Morgan – recently shortlisted to the final 40 in the National ‘Chef of the Year’ competition 2011– provides priceless learning experiences for our young team members.

We expect our Cucina Academy students to spend between 2-4 years with us, before they progress to the next stage in their food careers.

If you are a school student thinking about a career as a chef, call us to talk about applying to the Cucina Academy.
